Philadelphia Installers Get State-Of-The-Art Train

Philadelphia, PA, November 8, 2005--The craft of floor covering will now be taught in a brand new, state-of-the-art facility for the professionals of INSTALL Local 1823. The largest portion of a newly opened and expanded training center of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Regional Council of Carpenters is dedicated to floor covering training. The Carpenters Apprenticeship Training Facility now includes another 66,000 square feet of instructional area, making its total structural footprint 125,000 square feet. Expanded areas for carpet and resilient mockups and classrooms for theory instruction will enable the center to host more apprenticeship and journeyman skill upgrade training courses. The new 200-seat auditorium, wired for teleconferencing, and a new computer lab, also are now available for use. The center celebrated its expansion with a grand opening event recently, which was attended by several local dignitaries, state legislators, and Bill Irwin, executive director of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters International Training Center. “We can easily and confidently say that the members of INSTALL Local 1823 will now learn, or upgrade, their craft in one of the best training centers in North America,” said John McGrath, president of Local 1823 and the coordinator of Philadelphia’s INSTALL program. INSTALL is an acronym for the International Standards and Training Alliance.
