Pfleiderer Using Plant Material in New Board

Neumarkt, Germany, Jan. 17, 2011 -- Pfleiderer said it has succeeded in replacing some wood in engineered products with an unidentified plant material that grows back in one year and is readily available.

The company said its BalanceBoard contains up to 30 percent of this raw material, which grows close to its plant.

“A completely novel material,” said Michael Wolff, chairman of the board of the Pfleiderer Western Europe Business Center.

“We have made a big step forward and have gained the lead in innovation.”

BalanceBoard is lighter than other products but the company said it meets its specifications. It doesn't require any special equipment or techniques to install.
