Personal Income Slid 2.0% in May, Spending Inched Up

Washington, DC, June 25, 2021-Personal income decreased $414.3 billion (2.0%) in May, according to estimates released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Disposable personal income (DPI) decreased $436.3 billion (2.3%), and personal consumption expenditures (PCE) increased $2.9 billion (less than 0.1%).

Real DPI decreased 2.8% in May, and Real PCE decreased 0.4%; goods decreased 2.0% and services increased 0.4%. The PCE price index increased 0.4%. Excluding food and energy, the PCE price index increased 0.5%.
