Patcraft Calls for Chandler Awards Entries

Dalton, GA, January 16, 2007--Patcraft Commercial Carpet--incorporating an inventive “dance-step-on-the-Internet” component that plays off of the creativity of design--introduces its 6th annual Chandler Awards. The national competition for architectural design and creative excellence recognizes a Best In Show winner and two Excellence in Design winners that receive $2,500 and $500 respectively. A representative for each firm also receives a trip to Chicago for NEOCON 07 and the awards presentation, as well as recognition in ads appearing in Interior Design, Perspective and Metropolis magazines and at patcraft.com. The Call for Entries is going out to designers throughout North America this month--with eligible projects significantly expanded to include the past three years. The entry deadline is March 15, 2007, and any commercial design project completed between April 2004 and March 2007 qualifies for the competition. “We understand that today’s architecture and design professional is very busy, and in some years getting submissions prepared can be a scramble,” says Eric Wroldsen, vice president of marketing. “The extended time frame for qualifying will allow entrants to submit work that may have been omitted in years past for no other reason than logistics.” The theme: Do the Chandler, provides a tongue-in-cheek reference to creativity in a broad sense, and particularly to the creativity of invented dances and how that relates to the “anything goes” aspect of design creativity. Patcraft is encouraging entrants, its sales force and anyone interested in the possibilities to submit videos of their personal dance interpretations for “The Chandler” at: www.chandlerawards.com. “Creating great work in almost any field begins with wide open possibilities and loosening your inhibitions,” says Wroldsen. “What better way to do that than inventing a dance step. It’s something we hope everyone can have fun with.” The prestigious panel judging this year’s submissions includes: James Pollet with Richard Pollack & Associates (RPA), San Francisco; Lyudmyla Matyushko of Swanke Hayden Connell, New York; Paulla Shetterly with CDH Partners, Atlanta. “This year, as in years past, we want to be sure everyone understands that entries are judged on overall design,” says Wroldsen. “The Chandler Awards is not a carpet competition, it’s a design competition. Winners in many cases have used products from our line that wouldn’t necessarily be considered edgy or flashy, but works beautifully within the overall project.” The competition’s name recognizes the Chandler family’s founding of the company more than a half-century ago.
