Pakistan’s Q1 Carpet Exports Up 16%

Lahore, Pakistan October 19—Pakistan carpet exports in the first quarter (July-September) period of the current fiscal year have shown a substantial increase both in dollar and rupee terms as compared to the same period last year. According to a press release issued on Monday, Naeem Tapir Sheikh, a spokesman of the carpet industry, said during July to September 2003 total earnings from carpet exports were to the tune of $47.7 million which increased to $55.3 million in July-September this fiscal, showing a rise of 15.79 percent. In rupee terms, the comparative figures are Rs 2.76 billion and Rs 3.24 billion showing an increase of 17.46 percent, the release said. Mr Sheikh said for second year running carpet exports have shown a growing trend. Last year the increase in carpet exports was to the tune of 12.63 percent, in rupee terms.
