Pakistani Carpet Exporters Get New Cargo Flight to
Lahore, Pakistan, September 28, 2005 -- Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will start a new cargo flight for carpet exports to the U.S. on October 5, according the Geo Business.
The statement was delivered by the head of PIA’s cargo department Shahid Latif while talking to carpet exporters in Lahore. He said that the government has accepted the long-standing demands of the carpet exporters and has decided to start new cargo flights. The number of cargo flights has been increased to five.
Shahid Latif said that due to the increase in international oil prices the cargo charges have also been increased. However, as soon as the oil prices are slashed the cargo charges will also be reduced.
According to the representatives of exporters Naeem Tahir Sheikh, Pakistan is facing stiff competition in the international markets and if the government provides incentives to them then the export target of $250 million can also be increased manifold.
Currently 60 tons of carpet is being exported through cargo flights.
