Karachi, Pakistan, Sept. 1--Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association chairman Abdul Ghafoor Sajid said carpet exports are likely to surpass $300 million during current fiscal year.
Talking to newsmen after conclusion of the inaugural ceremony of Carpet Exhibition 2005, he said the boost in carpet exports is expected in view of the orders worth millions of dollars, which were placed with the Pakistan carpet exporters by foreign buyers during the carpet exhibition 2005.
More than 70 stalls were set up in the exhibition including 12 stalls from India and 2 from China. A number of buyers from USA, Germany, South Africa, China, France, Italy, Japan participated in the exhibition.
Local exporters got orders worth more than 50 million US dollar during the carpet exhibition in Lahore last year. Pakistan's carpet exports stood at record $283 million during 2004-05.
