Pakistan Carpets Do Well at Atlanta & Domotex

Lahore, Pakistan, Jan. 23--Pakistani carpets did well at both the Atlanta market and Domotex last week, according to Pakistan Press International. Reports from Atlanta Carpet Fair held on 15-18 January and Domotex Fair held Hannover Germany on 17-20 January say that the latest carpet designs from Pakistan like Chobi and Classical Reproductions remain a prefered choice of consumers the world over. At the Domotex Carpet Fair seven leading carpet exporters from Karachi and eight from Lahore put up their stalls. A large number of Pakistani exporters also visited the Atlanta market. According to Naeem Tahir Sheikh, spokesman of the carpet industry, who spoke to Pakistani businessmen participating in the two events, about $15 million worth of carpet business was transacted at the two fairs including on-the-spot sales and future orders. A strong trend was seen in Pakistan's latest designs and color combinations. There was also a revival of interest in Pakistan's traditional designs Mori Bokhara which augurs well for Pakistan carpet industry. Export Promotion Bureau Chairman Tariq Ikram who was present at the Domotex Fair visited variosu Pakistanis stalls and appreciated the arrangement smade for the display of Pakistani carpets. Wool and Carpet Review, Pakistan's leading International Trade Journal, was the focus of attention of visitors at the Pakistan pavilion. Naeem Tahir Sheikh added that international dealers' increased interest in Pakistani carpets seen at Domotex and Atlanta is a good omen for the industry and our exports will rise in the coming months.
