Orders for Manufactured Goods Climbed 0.7% in September

Washington, DC, November 2, 2018-New orders for manufactured goods in September, up four of the last five months, increased $3.4 billion or 0.7% to $515.3 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau reported. 

This followed a 2.6% August increase. 

Shipments, up sixteen of the last seventeen months, increased $4.6 billion or 0.9% to $509.8 billion. Unfilled orders, up ten of the last eleven months, increased $9.7 billion or 0.8% to $1,186.5 billion. Inventories, up twenty‐three consecutive months, increased $3.7 billion or 0.5 percent to $680.4 billion.

New orders for manufactured durable goods in September, up three of the last four months, increased $1.8 billion or 0.7% to $262.0 billion, down from the previously published 0.8% increase. Transportation equipment, also up three of the last four months, drove the increase, $1.9 billion or 1.9% to $97.4 billion. New orders for manufactured nondurable goods increased $1.6 billion or 0.6% to $253.3 billion.
