Ohio Retailer Indicted on State Sales Tax Charges

Bowling Green, Oh, November 22--The owner of a local carpet store has been indicted on three charges stemming from his alleged failure to turn over state sales tax, according to the Toledo Blade. Richard McCaughey, Jr., 61, of Genoa was indicted by a Wood County grand jury last week on charges of aggravated theft, failure to file or filing false tax returns, and failure to remit sales tax. He is to be arraigned Nov. 30 by Common Pleas Judge Robert Pollex. The indictment alleges that the owner of Bee Gee Carpets took more than $100,000 in state sales tax between Jan. 1, 2000 and April 30, 2004. During the same period, he also allegedly failed to file tax returns and remit sales tax to the state on a monthly basis
