NSF Rolling Out New Green Product Initiatives
Ann Arbor, MI, Nov. 15, 2010 -- NSF International will announce several new major initiatives this week at the U.S. Green Building Council’s annual Greenbuild Conference in Chicago.
Among them, NSF will unveil the National Center for Sustainability Standards, which will have the mission of fostering a consensus-based approach toward conformity assessment in the sustainability field.
It will develop national standards to measure a product’s sustainability attributes to help eliminate greenwashing.
Another initiative is the NSF Sustainable Product Assurance Program, to verify conformance with published standards and protocols. The testing and certification program verifies environmental claims, such as water, waste and energy savings, recyclability and nontoxic claims for a number of products.
And finally, NSF is setting up the New American National Standard for Sustainable Wallcoverings.
