New York Retailer Arrested in Scam

Scotia, New York, April 6, 2006--The "Carpet King" is accused of pulling the rug out from under his customers, according to Capital News 9. Stan Kubick of Scotia is facing nine counts that include grand larceny, petit larceny and forgery. Kubick has owned the "Carpet King" store on Central Avenue in Colonie for several years now. He was arrested after a homeowner claimed he took $1,400 up front for a job and never showed up. Police said it is a scam he has pulled on others. The "Carpet King" Stan Kubick has been arrested for allegedly taking money from customers and never doing the work for which he was paid. Colonie Police Spokesman Lt. John VanAlstyne said, "As we started off with our investigation, we realized each day we were getting several more complaints on the same individual for the same type of things, taking money up front, promising to come install the carpet, then never showing up." Kubick was held on $20,000 cash bail or bond. Anyone who believes they were cheated by the "Carpet King" is asked to call the Colonie Police Department.
