New Jersey Charges Six Flooring Stores with Fraud

Newark, NJ, October 20--The state has sued six Floor Superstore locations for consumer fraud, charging that 112 customers who complained of difficulty in getting refunds and other problems are owed $125,000, according to Newsday. "The carpeting or flooring these customers purchased either never came, finally came after customers repeatedly complained following no-show delivery appointments, or was installed incorrectly," Reni Erdos, director of the state Division of Consumer Affairs, said Tuesday. The stores also violated the Consumer Fraud Act by collecting deposits and attempting to enter contracts before measurements were taken or the actual prices was determined, authorities said. In addition, the retailers provided slipshod installations that left holes, ripples or gaps next to walls, the state charged. Each of the six stores, in East Brunswick, Eatontown, Livingston, Paramus, Springfield and West Paterson, are operated through separate limited liability corporations, according to the lawsuit. Messages left at the stores Tuesday for an owner or manager were not immediately returned. The state lawsuit was filed Friday in state Superior Court for Bergen County in Hackensack.
