New Business To Turn Carpet Waste Into Oil

Dalton, GA, Dec. 15, 2011 -- A new business has technology to turn 400,000 tons of carpet waste into synthetic oil.

Community Energy Systems will sell $13 million in bonds to build a facility at the Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Authority and to purchase equipment to turn plastic from carpet into crude oil.

The Georgia division of the business will be known as Clean Energy Conversions and could begin operations by early 2013.

The Dalton-Whitfield County Joint Development Authority has about 400,000 tons of carpet waste it has been storing since the 1990s.

The company eventually plans to covert other plastic waste as well. The process uses plastics that are not easily recyclable.
