Lake Tahoe, NV, October 28, 2005--The Leadership Lake Tahoe's "One Home at a Time" team received a very generous donation from The Paint Store & Carpet Barn.
The much-needed 1,800 gallons of paint that owner Doug Bolton donated to the renovation team was used to paint the inside of the four residential homes, owned and operated by Sierra Recovery Center, according to the Tahoe Daily Tribune.
The newspaper reported that the massive amount of paint was moved from The Paint Store, then loaded and delivered by more than a dozen members of the California Conservation Corp., along with their supervisors. Members of CCC also helped clean up around Sandor's Chateau, also owned by the drug/alcohol treatment agency.
The Leadership team's work weekends, which began in August and officially ended last weekend, included members of Leadership Lake Tahoe '05, alumni of previous Leadership classes, CCC, members of Soroptimist, Sierra Recovery Center board members and staff, and other community volunteers. Working alongside the volunteers were residents who are in substance abuse treatment living at the homes. One former residents, who had worked on the renovation projects while in treatment, continued to volunteer his time and carpentry skills on several weekends after he completed treatment.
Renovations that were made over the three months included patching, sanding, painting, replacing sheet rock, installing vinyl floors, base boards, mirrors and light fixtures. While the official work weekends are over, there are several projects that some members of the team are continuing to work on until they are complete. Donations of cash and windows are still needed.
