NAHB: Immigration Bill Would Harm Small Businesses
Washington, DC, May 22, 2007--The following is a statement from Jerry Howard, Executive Vice President and CEO, National Association of Home Builders: “The nation’s home builders have always championed comprehensive immigration reform. Unfortunately, the problems with the Senate immigration overhaul bill are so grave and extensive that we believe this legislation cannot be fixed without making major revisions. If enacted into law in its present form, this bill would do irreparable harm to America’s small businesses, which have generated the lion’s share of new job growth in the economy.
“We therefore have no choice but to oppose the legislation as currently written. We call on lawmakers to go back to the table, start from scratch and to bring in representatives from the small business community, including the construction sector, to help craft a reasonable bill that would benefit all Americans.”
