Myers Carpet of Dalton Celebrating 60 Years of Business

Dalton, GA, February 9, 2017—In July 2017, Myers Carpet of Dalton, Georgia will be celebrating its 60th year in business.

Myers Carpet was the first and remains the oldest carpet outlet in Dalton, Georgia.

The company was founded in 1957 by Gene Myers, who started buying scraps of carpet from local mills and reworking them into stair treads and small rugs he then sold through area chenille stores.

Myers, with the help of his wife Evelyn, and later sons Rick and Ray, soon opened Dalton’s first carpet store and began offering carpet from local mills. Patcraft was the first. Later, Art Black, founder of Evans & Black, gave Myers his line.

In 1987, Myers Carpet opened a 3,000 square foot showroom on Peachtree Street in Atlanta.

Six years later, it purchased and moved into a 35,000 square foot warehouse and showroom at 1500 Northside Drive in Atlanta. That location quickly became the flagship retail store for Myers.

Then in 1998, Myers Flooring opened in Nashville, followed by the purchase in 2001 of the showroom and warehouse of Division Street Carpets at 641 Division Street in downtown Nashville.

On February 1, 2016, Myers Carpet closed on the purchase Nashville Carpet Center after several months of negotiations with it’s owner Van Gilmore. Nashville Carpet Center had served the city of Nashville with residential and commercial floorcovering for over 41 years. Both Myers Flooring Nashville and Nashville Carpet Center then moved into a new 15,000 square foot showroom at 516 Fontana Drive in Nashville, becoming the premier floorcovering retailer in Tennessee. The Nashville Carpet Center name was retained as the commercial division of Myers Flooring of Nashville.

Today, the company’s management team consists of Rick and Ray Myers, owners; Chris Fonville, manager of Myers Carpet Atlanta; Doug Peeples, manager of Myers Flooring Nashville; Sandy Valeriano, controller; and Donnita Cagle, human resources manager.
