Mullican Products “Verified Sustainable”

Johnson City, TN, August 9, 2007-- Mullican Flooring prefinished hardwood products have been verified as "sustainable" by the Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers Inc. through data provided by the U.S. Forest Service. (An earlier version of this story used the word "certified," which was incorrect.)

Mullican has been a supporting member of AHMI and endorses the association’s new “Verified Sustainable” program.

This is a great day for our company and our industry,” says Neil Poland, president of Mullican Flooring. “To have this verification by AHMI validates what we have known for the past 20 years. The Appalachian hardwood forest has now been verified to be sustainable by U.S. Forest Service data. AHMI is doing great things for the Appalachian hardwood industry, and we are very proud to be a member.”

AHMI has been notified by the U.S. Forest Service that  2.29 trees are growing for every tree that is harvested or dies of natural causes in the 344 counties in the Appalachian hardwood forest. The Appalachian hardwood forest now has 65.4 million acres of timberland, reflecting a significant increase in hardwood growth during the past 15 years.
