Most Homeowners Want to Renovate Kitchen

Temple, TX, Mar. 31--Just about everyone--97% of homeowners--wants to renovate their kitchens, according to market research conducted by Wilsonart, makers of the successful MesaGranite and Topaz lines of laminate. Top among those items that the 1,128 surveyed women homeowners have earmarked to renovate include cabinets (30%), changing the size of their kitchen (26%), flooring (18%) and countertops (16%). "We have an obsession with our kitchens and because we spend so much time in them, it's not surprising that most people want to renovate this room," says Ron Gagnon, Wilsonart Director of Design and Marketing. "Our survey relays the high expectations consumers now have for their kitchens." Wilsonart's survey discovered that 23% of kitchens have been renovated as recently as two years ago; of those, 14% within the last year and 9% within the last 12 to 14 months. Twelve percent were renovated between two to four years ago and another 9% within the last five to seven years. An overwhelming majority (68%) of those surveyed expect to renovate within the next five years. Another 37% plan to renovate within two years and 15% say they will renovate within the next six months. Fifty-nine percent of respondents believe their kitchens give the impression of being well organized, while 21% feel their kitchen conveys a sense of being well designed and 9% say their kitchen is stylish. "It's amazing what showplaces kitchens have become. Replacing the countertops is one of the easiest ways to update the look of any kitchen and laminate offers consumers an affordable way to achieve a luxurious look," Gagnon says.
