Mortgage Rates Have Climbed Over 6% to Six-Month High

Chattanooga, TN, March 27, 2026-Mortgage rates rose for the fourth straight week to the highest level since September, which could hamper the home-buying season, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Mortgage rates slid below 6% in February, but the average rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage this week is 6.38%

“The war in Iran and subsequent oil-price increases have spurred expectations that the Federal Reserve will keep short-term interest rates higher for longer,” the organization reports.
