Mortgage Rates at 60-Year Low

Washington, DC, Sept. 8, 2011 -- The average interest rate for the 30-year fixed mortgage fell to 4.12%, down from 4.22%, Freddie Mac said Thursday.

Freddie Mac said the last time rates were lower was 1951.

The average rate on a 15-year fixed mortgage fell to 3.33% from 3.39%. That's the lowest on records dating to 1991 and probably the lowest ever, economists say.
