Mohawk's Columbia Flooring Cuts Staff

Melbourne, AR, Jan. 20, 2009--Columbia Flooring officials notified employees at the Melbourne manufacturing facility that it will lay off 45 eployees as the company manages production to parallel consumer demand, according to a story in the Batesville Daily.

The Melbourne plant produces hardwood flooring. Columbia is owned by Mohawk Industries.

Vice President of Human Resources Shelley Yeary indicated that Columbia was planning staffing reductions at each of the company’s three manufacturing facilities. The positions to be eliminated will be limited to the lowest possible number based on projected production needs.

“To maintain an efficient operation, we must reduce production where excess capacity emerges,” Yeary said.
