Mohawk to Expand Hillsville, Virginia Carpet Backing Plant

Calhoun, GA, January 15, 2021-Mohawk will invest $22.5 million to expand its Hillsville, Virginia operation, reports the Galax Gazette.

The company will add 19,000 square feet and install new extrusion and loom equipment to increase its production speed. The expansion will create 35 jobs.

The Hillsville facility manufactures carpet backing from 100% recycled post-consumer materials, which is then used to manufacture commercial carpet at its Rockbridge County, Virginia facility, as well as other sites across the Southeast.

This facility was built by Burlington Industries and was acquired by Wayne-Tex in 1999. Mohawk bought it in early 2005.
