Mohawk Receives Economic Development Grant

Atlanta, Dec. 24—Mohawk Industries is among several Georgia companies that received about $10 million in state rural economic-development grants. The grants, which are expected to help companies add more than 900 jobs in Middle Georgia, to projects in Peach, Baldwin, Dodge, Treutlen and Washington counties, according to the Macon Telegraph. The awards were part of the OneGeorgia program, funded by Georgia's money from a legal settlement with tobacco companies. The bulk of the OneGeorgia funds going to Middle Georgia is an $8.5 million gift to help Blue Bird Corp. upgrade its bus-manufacturing facility in Fort Valley. Other OneGeorgia grants awarded Friday to Middle Georgia projects include $315,000 to buy equipment for an expansion of the Aladdin carpet-fiber plant in Milledgeville. The company, a unit of Calhoun-based Mohawk Industries, plans to keep its current 340 employees and add 210 new jobs.
