Mohawk Making Cuts at Commercial Carpet Plant

Landrum, SC, July 30, 2009--Mohawk Industries said it will lay off about 45 employees at its Landrum, S.C., commercial carpet plant, according to media reports.

The company said commercial construction and renovation is being hurt by the struggling economy.

“This reduction in force is a classic example of the impact a prolonged economic downturn has on a nation’s manufacturing sector,” wrote Jerry Hendrix, senior human resources director for the company’s flooring division.
