Mohawk Leases Five Natural-Gas-Powered Trucks

Dalton, GA, Aug. 22, 2011 -- Mohawk has leased five trucks powered by liquefied natural gas from Ryder System Inc. to support the company’s day-to-day customer delivery operations in Southern California, according to a story in the Dalton Daily Citizen.

The company was helped by an environmental grant provided by the state of California.

“While the leasing of five natural gas trucks from Ryder is in the best interest of the environment, it is also in the best interest of our business,” Stan Brooks, senior director of transportation for Mohawk Industries, told the newspaper.

“With diesel fuel sitting at just over four dollars a gallon, over time we will cut our fuel costs nearly in half with natural gas trucks.”

Mohawk, which operates one of the largest commercial trucking fleets in the flooring industry, has had a long relationship with Ryder and is its largest customer.

“We could not have implemented this project without Ryder,” Brooks said. “Ryder has been our strategic transportation partner for decades.”
