Mohawk Group Wins Design, Sustainability Awards
Kennesaw, GA, Jan. 20, 2009 – The Mohawk Group was recently awarded multiple industry awards for its achievements in carpet design and sustainability.
Added to its list of recognitions are: two Best of Year Merit Awards from Interior Design, three Readers’ Choice honors from Environmental Design + Construction (ED+C), a Doc Award from Solutia’s Ultron carpet fibers and a first-place Readers’ Choice Award from Today’s Facility Manager.
“These awards validate our commitment to translating our customers’ needs into cutting-edge flooring and time- and resource-saving technologies,” said Al Kabus, president of The Mohawk Group. “We continue to raise the bar to not only benefit the end-user, but also the environment.”
The Mohawk Group’s carpet products and technologies honored include:
• Durkan’s Synthesis (Interior Design Best of Year Merit Award, Broadloom): Synthesis utilizes a new patent-pending technology that allows for a layering of pattern and texture on hospitality carpet.
• Lees Carpets’ Places and Spaces, print (Interior Design Best of Year Merit Award, Modular): Together with four U.S.-based HOK offices, Lees Carpets captures the country’s urban enigma in this printed modular collection.
• Drag and Fly (ED+C Readers’ Choice Award, Software): This “drag and place” software for modular carpet images, allows on-the-spot placement of high-resolution carpet images that are properly scaled; accurately depict all installation methods; and provide all colorways of modular styles from The Mohawk Group’s brands into 3D renderings or CAD programs.
• LEED PLUS Calculator (ED+C Readers’ Choice Awards, Services): LEED PLUS Calculator shaves weeks off the environmental product specification process. The web-based tool allows users to search The Mohawk Group’s product portfolio and calculate the United States Green Building Council’s LEED certification points, along with several other industry environmental ratings, in minutes.
• SMART Book(ED+C Readers’ Choice Awards Runner-Up, Services): The SMART book uses 63 percent less virgin raw materials, reducing the weight by more than half of traditional sample books. .
• Karastan Contract’s Completely Charmed, part of the brand’s Covet Collection (Solutia Ultron’s Doc Award, Product).
• The Mohawk Group (TFM Readers’ Choice Award, Carpet): Awarded first place in the carpet category by the publication’s readers.
