Mohawk Closing Rome Tufting Operations

Rome, GA, June 26, 2007--Mohawk Industries intends to close the tufting operation in Rome as part of a larger consolidation effort, according to The Rome News.a company spokesman said today. The closure is expected to take place on Friday and will end all operations at the facility.

 

Quoting Jerry Hendrix, Mohawk’s senior human resources director, the newspaper said that about 35 people work in the tufting operation.

 

In February, the company announced it was closing the plant’s dying portion, which employed about 22 people.

 

According to the newspaper Mohawk will be shifting dye house operations at the Rome plant to other facilities and tufting functions will be absorbed by its Eton, Georgia plant.

 

Hendrix said Mohawk is working with the employees to place them in other positions within the company.
