Mohawk Closing Georgia Tufting, Finishing Plants

Calhoun GA, February 20, 2008--Mohawk said it will close tufting operations at its plant in Armuchee, Ga. The facility's 158 employees were told of the action Tuesday.

In addition, it is closing a carpet finishing plant in Dalton, putting another 68 employees out of work.

The company said it would offer them available jobs at other Mohawk sites.

"Production capacity must be aligned with consumer demand in order to remain competitive," said Joey Faircloth, Mohawk's vice president of residential manufacturing.

In June, Mohawk closed its dye plant on Lavender Drive in Rome. Plants were closed in Calhoun and Dalton in August.
