Mohawk Anniversary Month Offers Custom Music CDs a

Dalton, GA, September 23, 2005 -- During “Mohawk Anniversary Month” shoppers at Mohawk Floorscapes, Mohawk ColorCenter and Mohawk Floorz stores can do more than just get great deals on flooring. They can contribute to the fight against breast cancer and enjoy great music. Mohawk has commissioned a custom music CD as part of its ongoing “Decorate for the Cure” campaign designed to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The all-original score features the artistry of Kim Bracken, and contains songs of love, hope, and inspiration. Consumers are directed to participating retailers to make a donation to the Komen Foundation and receive a free copy of this CD. The CD will be featured prominently in stores with a pop-up counter display. The display will contain donation envelopes addressed directly to the foundation, so the dealer can mail in the donation or the customer can do it herself. “Mohawk has contributed more than $1 million to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation through ‘Decorate for the Cure’ promotions in the past,” said Ed Williams, senior vice president of Mohawk. “Our dealers are a big reason for the success of this program, and the CD tie-in not only helps the foundation, but it allows consumers to see the connection our dealers have with this wonderful organization. The music will help remind listeners of this association. And it is a very positive way to continue gathering funds for the foundation.” The mission of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment. Breast cancer remains the most common form of cancer among women in the United States. More than 200,000 individuals will be diagnosed with the disease this year, and 40,000 will die from it. Eighty-five percent of the women who get breast cancer have no family history of the disease. The Susan G. Komen Foundation recommends the following steps for early detection of the disease: 1. Annual screening mammography for women at age 40. Women under 40 with a family history of the disease or other concerns about personal risk should consult with a professional about risk assessement and when to begin mammography. The average size lump found by mammography when films can be compared is about 1 centimeter. The average lump found by accident is 3.6 centimeters. 2. Clinical breast examinations by a trained medical professional at least every three years beginning at age 20 and annually after 40. 3. Monthly breast self-examination beginning by age 20.
