Missouri Retail Worker Arrest for Theft

Columbia, MO, February 7, 2006--A Centralia woman was arrested Monday and charged with a felony in connection with the theft of more than $25,000 from the Columbia carpet store where she worked, according to the Columbia Missourian. Michelle L. House, 23, worked as the office manager for three years at Busenbark Carpet Outlet Inc., 8060 I-70 Drive S.E., before she quit in October. “We started looking at the bank deposit slips, and none of the cash made it to the bank,” said Traci Best, the owner of Busenbark Carpet Outlet. “We had $40,000 stolen.” After noticing discrepancies in October’s bank statement, Best said she looked at previous statements and noticed none of the cash dating back to October 2004 was ever deposited. Best then contacted Detective David Wilson, of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. Wilson was not available for comment. Boone County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Donald Ridgeway said House was released on $50,000 bond late Monday morning from the Boone County Jail.
