Minor Fire At Interface Plant
LaGrange, GA, Oct. 24--An estimated 150 employees were evacuated yesterday morning from an Interface Flooring Systems manufacturing plant in La Grange, GA, due to a minor fire. There were no injuries and production will not be affected. The fire was reported at about 9:30AM. It occurred on an old fusion backing line that was in the process of being disassembled for removal from the building. A spark from a welding torch being used to dismantle the line ignited the fire. Although the fire caused some damage to the roof, it was quickly extinguished and the plant resumed production in a matter of hours. According to John Wells, President, Interface Flooring Systems, the company’s fire evacuation plan was executed flawlessly and everyone it the plant remained cool and preformed professionally. Wells said that the plant sustained only minor damage to the roof. He said production resumed at the plant for the second shift and the plant was up and running as usual this morning, Wells added that only half a shift was lost and that will be regained during the weekend.
