Milliken Registers SC and GA Headquarters for LEED

Spartanburg, SC, July 20, 2007--Milliken & Co. said it has registered both its South Carolina corporate headquarters and its Georgia design center with the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Rating System for Existing Buildings 2.0 (LEED® EB).

The LaGrange, Georgia facility houses global headquarters for Milliken Floor Covering and Milliken Walk Off Mats and provides office space for other Milliken businesses. Milliken Contract’s new showroom in the Chicago Merchandise Mart is registered with USGBC’s version 2.0 LEED for Commercial Interiors Rating System and debuted during NeoCon World’s Trade Fair.

The international textile and chemical manufacturer said it is moving toward certification by identifying the necessary expenses, reviewing scorecards and developing a plan of action, according to Bill Gregory, Milliken's director of sustainable initiatives.

LEED Rating System for Existing Buildings 2.0 addresses whole-building cleaning and maintenance issues including chemical use; ongoing indoor air quality and energy efficiency; water efficiency; recycling programs and facilities; exterior maintenance programs, and systems upgrades to meet green building energy, water, IAQ, and lighting performance standards.

LEED for Commercial Interiors 2.0 was developed specifically to give power for making sustainable choices to tenants and designers, who do not always have control over whole building operations.
