Milliken Registers New York Showroom with LEED

Spartanburg, SC, October 3, 2007-- Milliken & Company has registered the Milliken Floor Covering New York showroom in the Greeley Square Building with U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Commercial Interiors.

“We had LEED criteria in mind when we began reviewing spaces, so the natural light and incredible views of Manhattan from the top floor were a good match,” said Milliken Floor Covering Division president David Caples.

The company also registered its showroom in the Chicago Merchandise Mart, worldwide headquarters in Spartanburg, and the Milliken Design Center in LaGrange, Georgia with LEED earlier this year.

LEED credentials were used as criteria for selecting the project team. Team members include LEED administrators Catalyst Partners, Design Firm Q Studio, architect of record Mancini-Duffy; and landlord’s agent Sierra Realty.

LEED for Commercial Interiors 2.0 was developed specifically to give power for making sustainable choices to tenants and designers, who do not always have control over whole building operations.

The lighting design is an important part of meeting expectations with LEED for commercial space. The location of this space supports credits around urban density and public transportation. Other aspects of the project that may contribute LEED points include, retrofitting bathrooms, Milliken carpet with adhesive free installation, and the new HVAC system.

“There is a strong awareness for green building in New York, and while it is the first LEED project in the building, the landlord has been very open and supportive regarding the process,” Caples noted.
