Milliken Registers 1700 Tree Plantings at NeoCon

LaGrange, GA, June 26, 2006--Visitors to the Milliken Contract Showroom during the 2006 NeoCon World’s Trade Fair registered more than 1,700 additional trees to southeastern forests through Trees for All (milliken.com/treesforall). This online planting initiative shares Milliken’s passion for stewardship. “The benefits start with planting a single tree and multiply each acre of forest sequesters about 2.5 tons of carbon annually,” said Bill Gregory, Milliken’s director of sustainable strategies. “Planting just 30 trees will absorb the carbon dioxide generated in the production of energy for the average American lifestyle each year.” Milliken supports the Trees for All initiative for customers and suppliers; manages more than 138,000 acres of corporate forests; generates power from small hydroelectric plants and harvests methane from the local landfill as an alternative energy source. The methane replacing 30 percent of the natural gas in the carpet manufacturing plants equals the annual electricity used by 1500 homes. Milliken Contract ( www.millikencarpet/sustainability.com), based in LaGrange, Georgia is an international manufacturer of carpet and rugs that follows the principles of total quality management and environmental and safety initiatives that have earned Milliken & Company global respect for uncompromising sustainable leadership and innovations.
