Milliken Donation Offsets 100% of Greenbuild CO2 E
LaGrange, GA, October 11, 2005--The non-profit Leonardo Academy announces that Milliken & Company’s donation of more than 9 million carbon dioxide (CO2) credits is enough to offset 100 percent of the CO2 emissions associated with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) 2005 Greenbuild International Conference & Expo. The contribution offsets greenhouse gas is equivalent to the annual amount generated by over 1,300 cars to help the November conference in Atlanta become a Certified Cleaner and Greener Event. Milliken’s company-owned forests and small hydroelectric plants reduce and sequester approximately 900 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Companies that take action to reduce pollutant emission are awarded global warming credits that represent an amount of greenhouse gasses prevented from entering the atmosphere. Programs such as Cleaner and Greener allow organizations to donate and retire these credits to offset the environmental impact of events or other activities. “Milliken’s long-time dedication to sustainability is reinforced by this donation of carbon dioxide reductions to offset the emissions from Greenbuild. The Cleaner and Greener Program is proud to accept and retire this donation to help make Greenbuild a Certified Cleaner and Greener Event,” Michael Arny, president of Leonardo Academy, added.
