Massachusetts Flooring America a Family Affair
Manchester, NH, April 26, 2006--When Joan Cocuzzo offers a lifetime guarantee at her Flooring America store in Franklin, MA, she means it. “I’m not just talking about the product, says Cocuzzo, “I’m talking about the people you buy it from. And at the moment, we’re a three-generation operation--me and my husband, our kids and our grandkids. That’s a lot of people our customers have come to count on. They know we’re going to be here.” All five of Joan and George Cocuzzo’s children have joined the family business, and now several grandchildren are romping around the showroom floor attending to chores and their after-school homework. For thirty years, the business has been an all-encompassing family affair, and the Cocuzzo’s have recently been sharing their story through a series of “Legacy Ads” in their local marketplace. “It’s been a natural for us because family and the family business have been inseparable since we opened our first store, said Cocuzzo. “It’s who we are, and we wanted to tell our customers about the family’s deep roots in the business and the community. Some people have asked if it’s difficult having the whole family working together, but for us, it’s been a great gift. All of our kids went away to college, and when they came back, they all said they knew what they wanted to do--work at the store.” The four-month-old legacy campaign emphasizes the family’s longstanding ties to Franklin, and the customer service advantages of multi-generational ownership focused on trust, floor covering expertise, and close personal relationships. Thirty years of meeting customers and potential customers at little league, local fund-raisers, and the corner supermarket have only served to reinforce a reputation of honesty and value. And now, it’s turned the family into a conversation piece. “It’s kind of funny,” said Cocuzzo, “not only have the ads been good for business, but since they started running, everyone’s been asking about the family. I guess it’s only fair...we’ve known about our customers and their homes for years, so now they get to learn a little bit more about us.”
