Marshall Field's Launches New Luxury Rug Colle

Chicago, IL, February 4--Marshall Field's plans to bring a new luxury rug collection to the Oriental Rug Gallery at its State Street store in Chicago. Tapis Gallery, which opens on Feb. 9, will feature Marshall Field's most luxurious collection of rugs. The assortment will offer an exquisite array of new and antique, traditional and contemporary designs that are hand-dyed and handcrafted for one-of-a-kind beauty. Many of the Oriental rugs in this collection range from $5,000 to $60,000 and feature finer details, greater knots per square inch and lustrous wool for a softer, more lavish feel. "Marshall Field's has been in the Oriental rug business since 1876, and our State Street store houses one of the largest Oriental Rug Gallery in any department store in the country," said Ralph Hughes, regional director, Marshall Field's. "The new Tapis Gallery offers the best of the best in luxury rugs, giving guests the opportunity to view and purchase true works of art." Renowned interior designer Jennifer Post, who has designed for celebrities including Jennifer Lopez and Matt Lauer, will design a line of custom contemporary rugs that will be offered first at Marshall Field's Tapis Gallery. "I am delighted to have the opportunity to design six custom rugs for the Tapis Gallery," said Jennifer Post. "Marshall Field's Oriental Rug Gallery is truly legendary, and it has been both exciting and stimulating to work with such dedicated and professional partners." The Tapis Gallery opening will be marked with a silent auction and cocktail reception on Wednesday, Feb. 9, beginning at 5:30 p.m., in the 9th Floor Oriental Rug Gallery. Jennifer Post will design a rug for the winner of the silent auction, with proceeds benefiting The Museum of Contemporary Arts. Jennifer Post also will present at the event. The opening of the Tapis Gallery coincides with the beginning of Marshall Field's famous Silk Road event, the company's annual Oriental rug sale that runs from Feb. 10-20 in the 9th Floor Events Center and in the Oriental Rug Gallery at the State Street store. The Tapis Gallery is the latest addition that reflects Marshall Field's commitment to bring new and exclusive merchandising offerings to its guests.
