Manufacturing Improves in New York Area

New York, NT, March 17, 2014 -- Manufacturing in the New York area showed modest improvement in March, according to the New York Fed.

The Empire State’s general conditions index rose to 5.6 in March from 4.5 in February.

The index fell eight points in February.

The new-orders component rose to positive 3.1 from negative 0.2 in February, and the shipments component rose to 4.0 from 2.1.

Inventories rose to positive 7.1 from negative 5.0 in the prior month.
