Mannington Offers Scholarships to Local Schools
Salem, NJ, May 11, 2006-- Taking a cue from the success of the company’s Stand On A Better World Awards program, associates at Mannington’s Salem, New Jersey, headquarters have announced the Stand On A Better World Scholarship fund, which will benefit local high school students. Five scholarships of $500 each will be awarded--one to a graduating high school senior in each of the five Salem County high schools. “Mannington has always been a company that cares about the community it calls home--in this case, Salem County. This scholarship is designed to recognize and reward students in the county who share this philosophy. We run a similarly-named national awards program for women, and we felt this was a logical expansion,” said Betsy Amoroso, community and public relations manager at Mannington. Donations for the scholarships are obtained exclusively through the generosity of Mannington associates. The Scholarship Committee has held fund-raisers throughout the year such as “Jeans Day”, where associates pay $5 for the privilege of wearing blue jeans on a Monday (company headquarter policy states that jeans may only be worn on Fridays). The “Jeans Day” fund raiser alone has raised almost half the total scholarship money needed. Other fund raisers have included a pretzel sale and a Chinese auction. “We’re so pleased with the enthusiasm that everyone has shown this program,” said Amoroso. “In fact, last Monday, a group from Elias Wilf was here for a meeting -- they all wore jeans and gave a generous donation to the fund. Having our distributor partners involved makes it even more meaningful.” For more information on the company’s national awards program, visit www.StandOnABetterWorld.com.
