Mannington, HOK Win Product Design Award

Calhoun, GA, Jan. 19, 2010--Mannington Commercial was honored among the world’s top corporations in the Good Design awards, for setting the highest standards for the best, most advanced product designs.

Founded in 1950 by Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames and others, Good Design bestows international recognition upon the world's most prominent designers and manufacturers for advancing new, visionary and innovative product concepts, invention and originality, and for stretching the envelope beyond what is considered ordinary product and consumer design.

Mannington was honored for the Create Collection, a product collaboration with global architecture firm HOK, for developing a resilient floorcovering for use in retail, corporate, healthcare and education design projects.

HOK and Mannington designed the Create Collection to celebrate what can be done with the Luxury Vinyl Tile in new ways, rather than simply mimicking other surfaces such as wood or stone in a high performance durable material.

The innovative form and function began with the biggest surprise – the shapes, which explore the endless possibilities of simple geometry. In addition to an 18 inch square, a 9 inch square and a 18 x 9 inch rectangle, the collection includes a 11 3/4 inch circle that installs with a companion four-pronged diamond link piece that is 12 inches tip to tip.

The surface of the tile features a subtle linear design that is registered and embossed through a unique Mannington process, lending a sense of depth and texture that resembles a woven textile.
