Mannington Announces First 'Stand on a Better

Salem, NJ, October 18, 2005--Mannington announced the winners of the first-ever Stand On A Better World Awards. This program recognizes women making outstanding contributions in their communities in three award categories: social, economic, and environmental. The 2005 Stand On A Better World Awards winners are: Winner, Social Category -- Deborah Bell - Gilmer, Texas Winner, Economic Category -- Kip Tiernan - Boston, Mass. Winner, Environmental Category -- Sharen Trembath - Angola, N.Y. Finalists -- Sarah Jarvis - Moss Beach, Calif. -- Lynn Price - Highlands Ranch, Colo. -- Jane Leu - San Francisco, Calif. -- Sister Mary Scullion - Philadelphia, Pa. -- Susan Moen - Ashland, Ore. The awards program honors women who, through an ongoing effort, have improved the quality of life for others by caring, doing the right thing, reaching out to help people around them, making a commitment to preserve our natural resources, or helping change the economic situation of others around them. Winners were chosen by a special judging committee that included: -- Dr. Sally Ride, the first American woman in space -- Former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno, the first woman to be named Attorney General of the United States -- Soccer Legend Mia Hamm, considered by many to be the best all-around female soccer player in the world The grand-prize winner will be announced and all three winners honored at a private Stand On A Better World Awards ceremony, held at the Philadelphia Ritz-Carlton on Nov. 17, 2005. Attorney General Janet Reno will be the featured speaker at the ceremony and will present the awards. The 2005 winners receive: -- $25,000 grand prize, donated to the grand-prize winner's chosen charity -- $10,000 to each of the two other winners, also to be donated to their selected charities -- $1,000 for each of the five finalists, awarded to their favorite charities Each of the three top winners, and the people who nominated them, will also receive Mannington flooring for their homes. Tom Davis, president and chief executive officer of Mannington Mills Inc., hopes the awards will not only recognize and reward women making a difference in their communities but also inspire others to do more. Any U.S. or Canadian female citizen is eligible to be nominated.
