Major Manufacturers Partner With Green Non-Profit

Denver, Colorado, November 16, 2006--Healthy Building Network, a national non-profit, and four international manufacturers—Forbo Flooring, Milliken & Company, Shaw Industries and Arden Architectural Specialties—commit to green chemistry for creating healthy building environments during the fifth annual Greenbuild Expo held by the U.S. Green Building Council. “Green chemistry represents the foundation of the next generation of green building materials,” according to Bill Walsh, Founder of Healthy Building Network, “We want to demonstrate that green chemistry is not just a theoretical idea. Its principles are being applied by leading manufacturers with mainstream product lines.” In its efforts to educate the green building audience, HBN convened a panel with three of the world’s most influential green chemists during Greenbuild at the Denver Convention Center on November 15. Conference attendees had access to leading thought leaders: Dr. Paul Anastas, Director of the Green Chemistry Institute; Dr. John Warner, director of the Center for Green Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts; and Professor Terry Collins, director of Carnegie Mellon University’s Institute for Green Oxidation Chemistry for Green Chemistry: The Next Plateau for Green Building Materials. “The companies gathered have applied green chemistry principles to address practical green building challenges, such as the phase out of PVC and other harmful chemistries within their industries. We celebrate those achievements and invite others to examine green chemistry options toward more sustainable manufacturing,” Walsh continued. The Healthy Building Network (www.healthybuilding.net) is a national network of green building professionals, environmental and health activists, socially responsible investment advocates and others who are interested in promoting healthier building materials as a means of improving public health and preserving the global environment.
