Lowe’s To Build Florida Warehouse

Wilkesboro, NC, Feb. 4--Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse plans to construct a new, state-of-the-art regional distribution center (RDC) in Osceola County, Florida. The $73 million facility will create up to 600 jobs and supply products to approximately 120 stores throughout Florida and Southern Georgia. The roughly 1.3 million square foot facility will be built on a 150 acre site in the Poinciana Industrial Park III. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2003 and take approximately one and a half years to complete. "Osceola County's great local work ethic and vigorous coordination by the Osceola County Economic Development Department combined with the overwhelming community and partner support lead to our success. The governor's office, Enterprise Florida, City of Kissimmee, Progress Energy, Inc., Avatar, and the many members of the I DO TEAM working together is what really won them over," said Paul Owen, chairman, Osceola County Board of County Commissioners. "We are very pleased to be building our newest regional distribution center in such a great location and look forward to bringing this major investment and hundreds of new jobs to Osceola County," said Lee Herring, senior vice president, distribution. "The new RDC will further demonstrate our commitment to our customers to provide the products they want, in stock at the everyday low prices they expect from Lowe's." The Osceola RDC will cover the equivalent of 28 football fields. The fully automated center will be equipped with five miles of conveyor to transport more than 25,000 different items through the facility each year. Lowe's currently operates nine regional distribution centers throughout the U.S.
