Lowe's Expanding in Western Canada

Mooresville, NC, Dec. 8, 2009--Two years after opening its first Canadian stores, Lowe's is planning to expand into Western Canada.

The retailer said that it expects to open three stores in the Calgary, Alberta region in 2010, with the aim of adding stores in Edmonton, British Columbia and Saskatchewan in the coming years.

Its first stores were in Ontario.

The company opened its Canadian headquarters in Toronto in December 2006, and its first Canadian stores debuted in the area a year later. Lowe's has 15 Ontario stores. Those locations have generally performed better than their American counterparts during the recession, executives have said recently.
