Mooresville, NC, October 19--Lowe's announced today the opening of its state-of-the-art regional distribution center (RDC) in Osceola County, Fla. The over 1.3 million-square-foot RDC will bring more than 600 jobs and represents a $75 million investment in the community.
Florida Lieutenant Governor Toni Jennings will join in a dedication ceremony at the facility at 9:00 a.m. today. The company will present Lt. Governor Jennings with a $100,000 contribution for the state's Hurricane Relief Fund. This contribution is in addition to $1.3 million Lowe's and its customers have already committed to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to help communities recover from these disasters.
"After a slight delay from the recent hurricanes, we are pleased to announce the Florida Distribution Center is officially open for business," said Mike Mabry, Lowe's executive vice president of logistics and distribution. "This distribution center is key in making sure our customers have quality products at everyday competitive prices. This facility will also ensure our Florida and southeast customers know their local Lowe's store will be stocked and quickly replenished with the right items when it comes to disaster preparedness and recovery."
Lowe's Florida RDC will service approximately 120 stores throughout Florida and Southern Georgia. The facility, located in the Poinciana Office and Industrial Park, is the equivalent of 28 football fields under roof. The fully automated center is equipped with more than seven miles of conveyor to transport more than 25,000 items each year.
"Between the 600+ new, high-wage jobs and millions of dollars in capital investment, this project is a shining example of the direction Osceola County wishes to guide its economy," said Ken Shipley, chairman of the Osceola County Board of Commissioners. "Convincing Lowe's to establish its Regional Distribution Center in Osceola County is exactly the kind of activity our economic development plan set out to accomplish."
