Linens 'n Things Scales Back on Store Closings
Clifton, NJ, July 28, 2008--Linens 'n Things said that the chain will close 57 stores rather than the previously announced 120.
LNT filed a voluntary petition under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code on May 2 and announced the closing of 120 stores.
"The reduced number of store closings is the result of improvements in the outlook for these stores throughout the remainder of 2008 into 2009. We are pleased that we are able to keep additional stores open for the benefit of our guests, associates, vendors and the communities we serve," said interim CEO Michael F. Gries.
"While a very difficult decision, the stores that are closing are necessary given the current retail and economic climate and the need to drive the cost savings and operational efficiencies that will allow us to position LNT for long-term growth."
Linens 'n Things, with 2007 sales of approximately $2.8 billion, operated 589 stores in 47 states and seven provinces across the United States and Canada as of the end of 2007.
