LD Brinkman Files Chapter 11

Lewisville, TX, May 7—Floorcovering distributor L.D. Brinkman Corp. has filed for Bankruptcy reorganization under Chapter 11. L.D. Brinkman president, Jeff Sills said the company has been unable to generate sufficient sales since management reacquired Brinkman from Beaulieu of America in July 2002. Sills said the recent economic slump and war in Iraq compounded the situation. The company said it will service all of its markets from its Lewisville, Texas; Ontario, Canada; and Sacramento, California sales service centers. Sales service centers in Houston, Las Vegas, Phoenix and San Antonio will be closed, while the company restructures operations. The firm provides 24 to 48 hour delivery to independent retailers, home centers and builders in the western and southern states. The company has implemented a system of common carriers. Sills said the company is still in the process of developing its reorganization plan, and he would be in a position to discuss more about the plan in up coming weeks.
