Largest Hand-Made Carpet Needs 3,000 Sheep
Nigde, Turkey, July 21, 2008--The biggest hand-made carpet in the world was weaved in Turkey, and will be sent to Kuwait, executives of a Turkish rug weaving association said on Friday.
A Turkish company asked a rug weaving development association in the central city of Nigde to weave the biggest hand-made carpet in the world.
The carpet was weaved by six girls from 2 tons of wool acquired from 3,000 sheep. It is 2,350 kilograms in weight, and 25,50 meters in length and 6,75 meters in width.
"The carpet will be exhibited in Istanbul for some time," Sayin Burku, the owner of the company that asked the association to weave the carpet, told reporters.
Burku said that the carpet would then be sent to Kuwaiti State Palace.
The first carpet the company asked rug weaving association to produce was 157 square meters. Then, a 162-square-meter carpet was weaved in 2005.
