Lane’s Acquires Manhattan Contract Dealer

New York, August 10 --Lane’s Floorcoverings, a major New York City contract dealer, has acquired Kramer Carpet Corp., another Manhattan dealership. Kramer, which is headed by Matt Forde, specializes in the corporate market. Forde will stay with the new owners for three years. Lane’s, a landmark on Park Avenue for many years, is headed by Lane Brettschneider and Richard Woland. The firm recently exited the retail business and moved to a new location on West 26th Street. Its goal is to concentrate on the commercial market, which has always been its strength. While part of Lane’s business targets the corporate sector, the company is much more diversified than Kramer’s, whose acquisition will strengthen that part of the new owners’ business. In addition to the corporate sector, Lane’s targets the institutional sector, high rise apartment buildings, churches, schools, banks, hospitals and the high end residential markets. That diversity kept the firm from being hurt by the prolonged slump in the New York corporate business following 9/11.
